Over 30 papers on energy, including nuclear energy, were published by the world-recognized Cuban nuclear physicist Jose Raul – participant of the World Scientific and Engineering Congress. But, do not search him under this name in the WSEC-2017 participants’ lists. Relatively recently, he revealed his real name – Fidel Castro Diaz-Balart, Commandant Castro’s son.
Fidel Castro Diaz-Balart, Science Advisor to the State Council of Cuba, Vice-President of the Cuban Academy of Sciences will attend and speak on the Plenary Session of the WSEC-2017 Congress on the first day. His paper is devoted to the «The Cuban scenario for 2030 on boosting energy efficiency and the use of Renewable Energy Sources for the sustainable development»
“It is an honor for me to be a speaker of such a significant congress, that will strengthen the worldview and efforts of scientists and engineers to improve the energy efficiency and production of our countries,” said Fidel Castro Diaz-Balart, accepting the invitation to the Congress. – Undoubtedly, WSEC is an important platform for experience exchange in the field of high-tech energy technologies, the most famous achievements and trends in modern energy.
The scientist expressed his hope that the Congress would provide an excellent opportunity for promotion of the world institutions and scientific research organizations and would serve as the venue for the development of new business opportunities and analysis of perspectives for the experience exchange.
“Fidel Castro Diaz-Balart is not for the first time in Kazakhstan,” says Gulbazar Mediyeva (Сhief coordinator of WSEC-2017, Сhief Scientific Secretary of the Presidium, National Engineering Academy of the Republic of Kazakhstan). – In 2015, we were honored to welcome him at the National Engineering Academy; he participated in the academy session and was interested in the developments of Kazakhstan scientists in the field of energy. It was at that time, he was admitted to the list of emeritus academicians of the National Engineering Academy of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
One of the most famous Fidel Castro Diaz-Balart’s paper “Nuclear power: the threat to environment or the solution of the XXI century energy problem?”. This paper was translated into several languages. There is no doubt that during WSEC-2017 discussions a nuclear physicist will defend the rights and prospects of nuclear energy. In one of his interviews, he stated that the “nuclear power is one of the development ways for industrial societies that have an industrial base, financial and human resources that can develop these technologies.” The scientist does not deny the possibility of renewable energy sources and stresses the importance of finding the optimal ratio of technologies. “However, we need decades in order to change the existing energy balance” assures the physicist, who graduated from the rector of Lomonosov Moscow State University and a doctorate degree at the Russian Kurchatov Institute. – Technologies should be mature. And I think that in the next 50-100 years we will continue to depend from the same sources of energy”.
As for the name Fidel Castro Diaz-Balart he had good reasons to live under a pseudonym. In the USSR, he studied under the fictitious name of Jose Raul. None of the students knew about his relationship to Fidel Castro. Under this name, Jose Raul, got a degree and wrote papers. However then he had to confirm the authorship of these papers. Nevertheless, he is proud of the fact he has created his name by himself and deserves it by right.
Journalists accredited for WSEC-2017 will have the opportunity to talk with a scientist. We shall remind that the World Scientific and Engineering Congress WSEC-2017 would be hosted on June 19 – 20, 2017 within the framework of the business program of EXPO in Astana city. The Congress is hosted for the first time not only in Kazakhstan, but also in Central Asia region with the theme “Energy of the future: innovative scenarios and methods of their implementation.” The Congress was supported by 11 authoritative international energy organizations with more than 1,000 delegates from 50 countries. Among them – four Laureates of the Nobel Prize, eight laureates of the International Prize “Global Energy”, renowned Kazakhstan and foreign scientists, environmentalists and experts.
