In the structure of the Academy there are about 13 regional branches founded based on the leading regional universities, 35 technical research centres closely cooperating with major industrial enterprises. 10 Academy branch offices cover all the priority areas of the country economy: the architecture, construction and building materials, computing and information technologies, geology, mining and smelting production, agroindustrial complex engineering, machine building,   space engineering and technology, petrochemical technologies, food industry, consumption goods, transport and communications, ecology, economy, power industry and energy-saving technologies.

High potential of the Academy is represented by its members, leading country scientists and engineers, production experts, government officials, Parliament deputies, heads of central and local regulatory bodies, high educational institutions, industrial research institutions, production associations, enterprises and organizations of the public and private sectors of the economy. As initiative members of the Academy, there are about 150 scientific research institutes, universities, corporations, companies, industrial enterprises and organizations.

National Engineering Academy of the Republic of Kazakhstan activities are aiming to systematically surmount the discontinuity between the fundamental and applied science and the industry, at transform the science into a realistic productive force. The main objective of the Academy is to provide an incremental and effective participation of the national science in the implementation of the proposed by President of the Country – Leader of the Nation, H.E. Nursultan Abishuly Nazarbayev, unprecedented large scale Strategy “Kazakhstan – 2050”, the state program on the accelerated industrial-innovative development of Kazakhstan.








Bakhytzhan Tursynovich Zhumagulov is the President of the National Engineering Academy of the Republic of Kazakhstan (since 1991), a well-known mathematician, Doctor of technical sciences, Professor, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the International Academy of Engineering, National Engineering Academy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, laureate of the State Prize of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the field of science, technology and education, honored worker of Kazakhstan.

Mr. Zhumagulov is a prominent scientist in the field of applied and computational mathematics, in the development and application of informational technologies, mathematical modeling and methods to resolve problems of hydrodynamics and practical issues in the oil and gas industry. He is the author of over 400 scientific papers and 11 monographs published in Kazakhstan and foreign countries, 8 textbooks.

He graduated from the Kazakh State University named after S.M. Kirov where his career commenced starting from an assistant paving the way to a Professor, Chairman of department and Vice rector (1979 – 1991). He worked as the first Vice Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Head of the Department of Internal Policy Department under the President Administration Head of the Governmental Department of social and cultural development of the Republic of Kazakhstan (2001-2005).

In April 2005, the Chairman of “Otan” Party N. Nazarbayev appointed Mr. Zhumagulov as the Acting Chairman of RPP “Otan”. In 2007 he was appointed to the position of the First Deputy Chairman of “Nur Otan” PDP, elected as the Deputy and Vice Chairman of the Majilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Head of “Nur Otan” NDP fraction under the Majilis.

In April 2008, by the order of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Mr. Zhumagulov was appointed as a Rector of the Kazakh National University named after Al-Farabi.

By the Decree of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan he was appointed to the position of the Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan in 2010.

Mr. Zhumagulov is the First Vice-President of the International Academy of Engineering (headquartered in Moscow, Russia). In 2011 he was elected as the President of the Federation of Engineering Institutions of Islamic Countries (FEIIC), since 2013 he has been the Honorary President of FEIIC. Since 2012 he is the President of Mathematical Society of Kazakhstan. Throughout 2009-2011 Mr. Zhumagulov has served as the President of World Mathematical Society of Turkic countries (WMSTC), since July, 2011 he has been its Honorary President.

Mr. Zhumagulov has been awarded with the Order “Parasat”, has a number of other awards and honorary titles conferred by Kazakhstan and international organizations.

Kazakhstan National Academy of Natural Sciences (hereinafter – KazNANS) was reconstituted on December 3, 2008 by the decision of the Presidium meeting of the Republican public association “National Academy of Natural Sciences”.

With the direct participation of the Academy in September 2009 Almaty hosted the III-rd Civilization Forum “The Future of civilizations and civilizational partnership strategy.”

May 28, 2010 KazNANS together with the Akimat of Astana city hosted the First Astana Innovation Forum. Within the framework of the III-rd Astana Economic Forum in cooperation with JSC “National Scientific and Technological Holding” Parasat” the panel session was arranged on July 2, 2010 dedicated to the “Formation of the global energy strategy”.

KazNANS has a network of branches covering all regions of Kazakhstan. Currently, the number of acting members of the Academy accounts for more than 200 leading highly qualified experts in different areas of the natural sciences.

In June 20-22, 2012, members of the Academy participated in the UN Conference on Sustainable Development “Rio + 20”.
On February 21, 2014 KazNANS hosted a roundtable in Astana “On measures to improve legal groundwork for the efficiency of research and implementation of their results in the processes of socio-economic modernization of the country in light of the Strategy” Kazakhstan – 2050″ with the involvement of deputies of the Parliament of Kazakhstan and representatives of the Republic of Kazakhstan state authorities, business circles, non-governmental organizations, scientific and edu

Currently KazNANS actively cooperates with various international academies, including the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences and the National Ukraine Academy of Sciences.

KazNANS has also been involved in the conduct and organization of the panel session “Sustainable Energy Strategy of Future Kazakhstan up to 2050” within the framework of VII-th Astana Economic Forum on May 22, 2014, and the panel session “Sustainable development of the Eurasian energy, water and transit potential” within the VIII-th Astana economic forum on May 22, 2015. Academy plans to host a number of other important events that will contribute to an effective research and innovation activities in Kazakhstan.

In September 1996, he was appointed to the position of the first assistant to the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

2000-2002 – 1st Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan.

in March 2004, he was appointed as the Chairman of the Senate of the second convocation.
By the Presidential Decree as of February 12, 2007 Mr. Abykayev was appointed as an Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the Russian Federation.
