WELCOME ADDRESS BY THE CHAIRMAN OF THE INTERNATIONAL PROGRAM COMMITTEE WSEC – 2017, PRESIDENT OF THE KAZAKHSTAN NATIONAL ACADEMY OF NATURAL SCIENCES, MR. ABYKAYEV N.A.

According to the Chairman of the International Program Committee WSEC – 2017, President of the Kazakhstan National Academy of Natural Sciences, Mr. Abykayev N.A. at the opening of the panel session “Energy of the Future: Global trends and technology” of the IX Astana Economic Forum “The new economic reality: the diversification, innovation and the knowledge economy”, Astana city, May 25, 2016

Ladies and gentlemen!

Dear participants of the IX Astana Economic Forum!

I am glad to welcome you on the hospitable land of Kazakhstan, in the capital of our country – Astana.

Different civilizations and cultures, passing along the Silk Road, have long been engaged, and intertwined. There was an exchange of not only goods but ideas and technologies that contribute to the development of different countries. The continuation of these traditions is the Astana Economic Forum (AEF) which occurred to be a remarkable event to the world historic community on the entire Eurasian space.

Every year, the best representatives of the scientific economic thought: scientists, politicians and businessmen, are gathering in the capital of Kazakhstan in order to discuss the most pressing issues and concerns of the world economy.

Back in 2008, when the global economy was overwhelmed by the global financial and economic crisis, Astana has become a platform for the joint search and discussion of ways out of the situation. The first forum on topic of “Modern aspects of economic development in the context of globalization” brought together participants from 40 countries of near and far abroad. Since that forum 8 years have passed.

During this period, the AEF has consolidated the international community’s efforts to understand the ongoing financial and economic turmoil and focus on finding solutions to improve the health of the global financial system.

The forum gave an impetus to the economic development in the post-crisis period by making recommendations to the leaders of the Big Twenty (G-20), which was also sent to the G-8, the International Monetary Fund, World Bank and the UN. The Forum witnessed signing of agreements with the European Investment Bank, and a huge amount of work has been done by countries to participate in the search of global cooperation in G-Global format.
In the past year AEF devoted to the topic of “Infrastructures driver of sustainable economic growth,” President, H.E. Nursultan Nazarbayev made a speech pointing to the global challenges that threaten the future of the world:

  • fragmentation of world order,
  • loss of trust between the great power leaders,
  • natural factors – climate change and pandemics,
  • food shortages.

The initiative of the Head of State of Kazakhstan and strategic programs developed under the strict supervision of Leader of the Nation: comprehensively note these challenges.
Advocating for peace and stability in the region, firmly and voluntarily our country has renounced use of nuclear weapons. We consistently strengthen relationships with our partner countries, we are an active participant of the OSCE, the initiator of Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia. Our country intends to continue to be a center for dialogue among world powers on issues of global economic development. The theme of this Forum includes the new economic realities, accompanied by diversification, innovation and the knowledge economy.

For a more complete and comprehensive disclosure of the AEF theme during our panel session we will consider the topic devoted to the International Exhibition EXPO-2017 – “Energy of the Future: Global Trends and Technology.” A key consideration will be the scientific and technological content of the modern economy and the future energy.

Our panel session will raise a wide range of topics related to technological innovations in the fields of energy, energy efficiency and renewable energy sources. The forum will discuss topics of traditional energy sources production and efficiency enhancement, etc.

Dear colleagues,

  • I hope that today, we will create a broad discussion platform to consider topical issues in the field of global energy trends of the world’s energy resources for the benefit of modern humanity.
  • I am convinced that the current, ninth, Astana Economic Forum will bring a significant contribution to the socio-economic, energy and environmental issues, raise fundamental problems in science, engineering and technology for the restoration of the old and reaching new achievements, accelerated growth of the economy as a whole.

I wish all the participants fruitful success!
